Dr. Ramesh Adiraju, MD, FACC
Dr. Adiraju is the founder and medical director of RENU-CA. He is an interventional cardiologist and endovascular specialist. His medical education was completed at the Kasturba Gandhi Medical School, Mangalore Universtiy, India. He subsequently completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh and fellowship training in Interventional Cardiology at Lankenau Hospital, Philadelpia.
Upon completing Fellowship in 1993, Dr. Adiraju joined a busy cardiology private practice based in Lower Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Dr. Adiraju pursued clinical research interests while in private practice and developed novel endovascular techniques for coronary and peripheral vascular disease re-vascularization and dysautonomia syndromes.
Dr. Adiraju has performed coronary and vascular interventional procedures at leading hospitals in metro Philadelphia over the last 33 years including Lankenau Hospital, Hahnemann Hospital, Einstein Hospital, Episcopal Hospital, Frankford-Aria Hospitals, Saint Mary Medical Center and Lower Bucks Hospital.
Dr. Adiraju has performed over 6000 coronary and over 2000 peripheral and endovascular procedure including AAA (abdominal aortic aneurysm) stent grafting. Dr. Adiraju has also perfected novel and complex endovascular techniques for treating unusual clinical conditions such as selective coil embolization for life threatening bleeding situations and atherectomy procedures for complex vascular situations where standard angioplasty and stents are not feasible. He has gained an impeccable reputation for possessing wide-ranging and deep clinical knowledge, outstanding operator skills, and an incessant thirst for clinical investigation, cost effective quality care and innovation—qualities that result in efficient and compassionate care for patients with excellent long-term outcomes.
Dr. Adiraju has special interest in CHIP (complex high risk (and indicated) patient) procedures for both coronary and peripheral vascular disease patients. Dr. Adiraju has performed over 500 CHIP procedures in his career both coronary and peripheral including critical limb salvage procedures.
Dr. Adiraju has performed over 100 complex coronary procedures with Impella hemodynamic support. He has developed new indications for optimal use of Impella hemodynamic support in cardiomyyopathy and chronic congestive heart failure treatment. Dr. Adiraju has successfully deployed Impella device even in severe peripheral arterial disease patients for support during complex coronary artery disease revascularization procedures.
Dr. Adiraju has developed novel cardiomyopathy and severe systolic heart failure management protocol with autonomic neurohormonal modulation program augmented with extended Impella hemodynamic support. To date RENU-CA institute has successfully implemented these protocols to reverse severe left ventricular dysfunction in close to 100 patients with severe left ventricular dysfunction and avoided need for defibrillators and other high risk and expensive device therapies that are currently being used for these patients.
Dr. Adiraju also developed novel double cutting balloon Aortic valvuloplasty technique as an alternate and less complex solution to aortic stenosis management in patients who are poor surgical candidates. Over 50 cases have been successfully performed with good long-term results.
Dysautonomia is the other area of interest for Dr. Adiraju. He has developed novel assessment and definitive treatment protocols for dysautonomia. Dr. Adiraju established Dysautonomia Institute and has implemented autonomic regulation in the treatment of complex clinical conditions such as POTS, syncope, chronic fatigue syndrome, Erythromelalgia and fibromyalgia.
Based on his dysautonomia research Dr.Adiraju has developed novel treatment approaches for Type ll diabetes and vascular endothelial dysfunction. His work on Type ll DM and vasculopathy has been recently published titled - Dysautonomia Type ll DM and vasculitis, January 21, 2016 Elsevier publication ( journal of Indian college of cardiology), Dysautonomia: A Novel Approach to Understanding of Vasculitis and Type ll Diabetes ( Journal of Rheumatology and Arthitis, 2017).
Dr. Adiraju has developed novel autonomic neurohormonal modulation protocol and successfully implemented this protocol in optimal treatment of chronic persistent congestive heart failure and cardiomyopathy patients.
